Whippet Up is an East Cleveland Community Interest Company that uses art and creativity to help boost wellbeing and tackle social isolation.
Weekly art workshops are attended by people referred in from mental health support, social workers, dementia support, carers support and are open to any residents who want a ‘wellbeing boost’. Every Whippet Up art session leads to bigger community events that are designed and developed by the people we support. The weekly arts workshops across Redcar and Cleveland help improve wellbeing, supporting people to get involved in wider community events helps tackle social isolation and loneliness. The community events have included themed outdoor cinema screenings, family art days, an alternative energy festival, celebratory lunches, music performances and children’s events. We have taken people from our groups to the moon (at the Festival of Thrift) and are recruiting Vikings (for Stockton International Riverside Festival).
We have built a Toolkit to help replicate the way Whippet Up works. We are exploring ways that we can increase trading income through training and mentoring using elements of this toolkit to build a network of interlinked wellbeing and creativity groups.
Whippet Up are currently running online Zoom sessions for adults who are socially isolated, an under 5’s group session and music sessions. These are supplemented with door to door deliveries of arts materials, we are also running socially distanced exhibitions and events.
