To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2023, Tees Valley Combined Authority is coming together with the Northern Echo to host a special panel discussion around some of the biggest opportunities in the region and how apprenticeships offer a key route to meeting local workforce challenges.
The Tees Valley is an area of significant economic opportunity. As we spearhead the path to net zero, our area is increasingly recognised as an exemplar in clean energy and the hydrogen economy. Alongside local regeneration programmes and exciting developments, including those taking place at the Teesworks site, the Teesside Freeport and the Darlington Economic Campus are all driving economic growth and creating jobs.
The future of the Tees Valley is looking brighter than ever. Local people can find good-quality, well-paid and fulfilling careers right on their doorstep. There are projected to be 10,000 job openings per year to 2027, with three quarters of those jobs requiring higher level skills.
Apprenticeships offer a key pathway for businesses to grow talent and develop a skilled workforce that is equipped with the future-ready skills needed to meet these opportunities head-on, and for individuals to develop rewarding careers.
During this panel event the Business Editor of the Northern Echo, Mike Hughes, will be asking key questions on local skills gaps, workforce planning and how apprenticeships can help develop a local talent pipeline fit for the future.
