Things to consider
If you’re ready to grow your business, then importing or exporting your goods or services between the UK and other countries can be a great way to expand your business into new and emerging markets. But first, there are some important steps you will need to consider.
You’ll need to think about conducting market research, developing an export or import strategy, as well as considering your finance options and arranging the relevant export documentation. For example, do you need an Economic Operators Registration and Identification number (EORI number)? Who will be responsible for dealing with customs declarations and transporting the goods? You’ll need to include the correct commodity code on your import declaration to determine duty and VAT rates, and some controlled goods will also require a special licence or certificate.
